we'll get through

From January to June 2008 Towy had major work on the Cabin and Gunwhales, the pictures below show how work progressed.

January

The side and top cloths were removed in preparation for the Gunwhale work.

Work began with Adrain Polglase dismantling the cabin in preparation for new Gunwhales at the stern end and a new cabin.

The original engine 'ole metal work before it was restored and used with the new cabin.

March

The fuel tank which is destined for the engine 'ole the hold was stripped of paint and cleaned with sawdust.

The original engine 'ole doors have also been rescued and are to be reffited to the new cabin with new hinges.

Adrian began work on the new cabin starting with the cabin frames.

A section has been chopped out of the original fuel tank to allow it to fit in the engine hole.

Adrian has fixed the stern deck in place but the top layer of shearing is still to be attached. correct lining up of the cabin frames is facilitated by the string centre line and battens.  Malcolm & Adrian were rivetting the engine hole, matching older fastenings

Adrian then started planking up the cabin sides with Tongue and Groove.

Another view from where the engine hole doors would eventually be showing the inside of the cabin.

Gently does it! the fuel tank is lowered in.

June

Paneling on the cabin had been attached in early june.

The engine was also overhauled, the exhaust was cut in half to reveal this!

Adrian then began putting finishing touches onto the cabin like this detail around the engine room door hatch.

Rob Arnott began work in june, mostly painting but he also turned his hand to some woodwork!

July

Work at Malkins Bank was completed in july and Towy moved for a weeks docking at Middlewich

With Towy on dock Rob got back to his traditional role of painting, here he is finishing off the signwriting.

When on dry dock Towy had patches let into the hull and it was all blacked with bitumastic paint.
